CLINICAL DATA:
Testosterone can be the "Impulsive Hormone," and there is a parallel of information about it in men and women. In women a little bit can go a long way, as it enhances sexual desires and fantasies, helps make women more easily sexually aroused, to enjoy intercourse better and have more frequent orgasms. For this study of short term Testosterone Boost Therapy the results show at 3 to 4 hours after reaching peak testosterone level, we found a statistically significantly increase in genital responsiveness (P = .04). Furthermore, on the day of testosterone boost treatment, there also was a strong and statistically significant association between the increase in genital arousal and subjective reports of "genital sensations" (P = .02) and "sexual lust" (P = .01) after 4 hours.
Testosterone has previously been shown to improve sexual function, bone mineral density, muscle mass, increased lean body mass, mood, energy and psychological well being. In many women, testosterone may have a direct effect on sex drive and sexual response. Women taking testosterone may have more sexual thoughts, fantasies, activity, and satisfaction.
Results: the higher testosterone therapy resulted in increases in scores for frequency of sexual activity and pleasure–orgasm in the Brief Index of Sexual Functioning for Women (P=0.03 for both comparisons with placebo). Further, the percentages of women who had sexual fantasies, masturbated, or engaged in sexual intercourse at least once a week increased two to three times from base line. |

Proper hormone levels (including the required minimal amounts of the “sex” hormone testosterone) are very important to a woman. Women produce increased amounts of this hormone in their puberty, because testosterone is the precursor to estrogen. Without testosterone, there would be no "woman." A woman's testosterone levels are highest in the early twenties. Many women experience a decreased sex drive from taking oral contraceptives which suppress all sex hormone production (testosterone, estrogens and progesterone). Losing sex drive is even more common as women approach and go through menopause. The treatment is relatively simple: bring back testosterone to natural optimal levels.
